Grantshouse
Official intimation has been received that Pte. Alexander Brown. K.O.S.B., was killed in action the 20th November, 1916. Private Brown, who was a native Banchory, Aberdeenshire, was employed by C. L. Stirling-Cookson, Esq. of Renton House, first as assistant gardener and later as under gamekeeper. He attested under the Derby scheme, and was called early in the present year. He was popular amongst his companions, and gave valuable assistance Mr Morrison, the head keeper, at a time when he was short handed. He belonged to a family which has an excellent record. Three other brothers are serving with the colours, one of whom is gunner Andrew Brown, late head gardener at Renton House. We extend our sympathies to his relatives in their sad bereavement.

The name of Alexander Brown does not appear in Berwick. Grantstown is in Scotland.
