Lyon, J.W., A/Smn., 1915
In Cairo War Memorial Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Kitchener P/561 Able Seaman John William Lyon, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 15/06/1915.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

John was born on 20th July 1893. He was working as a miner living with his sister, Mary Thompson at 33, Tulloch Street, Newcastle upon Tyne when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on 3rd September 1914.

He transferred to the RNVR on 10th September 1914 and was posted to the Anson Battalion on 22nd October 1914.

John died of wounds in the Atelier Ward of the 1st Australian General Hospital in Cairo on 15th June 1915.

John William Lyon is remembered as "W. Lyon" in Berwick on B25.01 and in Elswick E35.10
