The family headstone reads:
In loving memory of
John Edwin Wood
25 Nov. 1911 – 21 Feb. 1946
also Thomas Wood
8 Oct. 1908 – 7 June 1975.
John was the son of Euphemia and the late Edwin George Wood of Drysdale Buildings, Rothbury. He served with the 9th Battalion and was taken as a Prisoner of War in Malaya on 15th February 1942 and was released on 2nd September 1945. He had also spent time in Osaka and Nagoya P.O.W. Camps in Japan. He died at home, aged 34 years.
