In Bulls Road Cemetery, Flers is the Commonwealth War Grave of 4046 Sergeant Robert Hounam serving with the 47th Battalion Australian Infantry, A.I.F. who died 16/11/1916.

In Rothbury Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In
loving memory
of
John Stephen
the beloved husband
of Ada Hounam
who died at Rothbury, Dec. 9th 1911
aged 55 years
also of Robert, dearly beloved son
of the above killed in action
November 16th 1916
aged 31 years
also the above Ada Hounam
who died May 24th 1946
aged 88 years

Robert was the husband of Phoebe (nee Tallack) of Burnie, Tasmania, Australia. He was a native of Rothbury. He emigrated to Australia on board the Suevic (White Star Line) from Liverpool on 21st September 1910 bound for Melbourne. His occupation at the time of his departure was recorded as a ‘draper’.

He enlisted on 4th September 1915 and embarked overseas on 24th November 1915 as part of the A.I.F.
