In Galashiels (Eastlands) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 2273 Private George Alexander Fletcher, serving with the 1/7th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 07/05/1915.

Ken Morrison has provided the following:

He was born in 1892 in Pathhead, Crichton, Midlothian, the son of James Sinton Fletcher (died 1907) and of Georgina (Paterson) Fletcher, of 72 High Street, Gallashiels and of Abbey Vale, Gattonside, Melrose, Roxburghshire. All available military records show that he used his second name (Alex or Alexander) and his family gravestone is inscribed G. Alexander P. Fletcher.

Alexander was an ironmonger when he enlisted at Alnwick in Northumberland. He landed with his battalion in France on the 21st April 1915. He was wounded near St. Julien and he was evacuated to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle where he died.
