In Chocques Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 39375, 65363 Private George Joseph Taylor, serving with the 1st Battalion, (5th Foot), Northumberland Fusiliers who died 10/05/1918.

George Joseph Taylor was born on the 12th February 1899, the son of Daniel Taylor, 32 Winstanley Road, New Ferry, Cheshire, and his wife Sarah Blanche Emily, daughter of Harry Stringer, of Warrington, at Port Sunlight, Chester.

George was educated at the Boy's School at Port Sunlight, and was employed by Messrs Lever Brothers at Port Sunlight.

He joined the London Rifle Brigade on the 11th March 1917, then transferred to the 3rd Battalion the South Lancashire Regiment, service number 39375. He served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from April 1918.

Transferred to the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, and was killed in action on the 10th May 1918.

A comrade wrote:- greatly missed by all his comrades, as he always had a bright word for everyone.

He took a keen interest in sport and was unmarried.
