On the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the name of 2035 Private Andrew Sproate, serving with the 1st/5th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 24/05/1915.

Morpeth Herald 11/06/1915 carries a brief obituary:

Mrs Sproate, 4 Short’s Buildings, Burradon, has received intimation that her husband, Pte. Andrew Sproate, of the 5th N.F., was killed in action on Whit Tuesday. Prior to joining the colours, Pte. Sproate worked as a miner at Burradon Colliery.

He is remembered in Walker on W2.21
