On the Helles Memorial is the name of 11702 Private John Thomas Bradley, serving with the 9th Battalion, The Prince of Wales's Own, (West Yorkshire Regiment) who died 22/08/1915.

John Thomas Bradley was born on the 18th May 1884, at Walker. The 5th son of (the late) Dominic Bradley, and his wife Catherine, daughter of James Diamond.

John was educated at the Roman Catholic School at Walker, and was a Shipyard Labourer.

He originally joined the Northumberland Territorials in 1908, in which he served 5 years. He then enlisted in the West Yorkshire Regiment on the 26th August 1914.

John served with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force at Gallipoli from July 1915. He took part in the landing at Sulva Bay.

He died from his wounds received on the 22nd August 1915.
