In Dranouter Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave of Lieutenant Leslie Hall Douglas serving with the 2nd Field Company, Northumbrian Divisional Royal Engineers who died 09/07/1915.

Leslie Hall Douglas was born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the 14th November 1887, the only son of John Douglas, of 33 Brighton Grove, Newcastle, and his wife Dorothy Jane, daughter of Thomas Hall, Civil and Locomotive Engineer.

Leslie was educated at the Royal Grammar School and Armstrong College. Where he qualified as a Marine Engineer. Leslie became Assistant Surveyor with Messrs Swan & McFarlane, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

On the outbreak of War, he volunteered and was gazetted a 2nd Lieutenant on the 8th September 1914. Sent to France on the 16th April 1915, he was promoted to a Lieutenant on the 12th June 1915.

He was killed in action on the 9th July 1915 at Dranoutre, Belgium. Leslie was unmarried.

A brother officer later wrote:-He has done excellent work for us under the most trying and dangerous conditions. He was a brave, painstaking officer. His loss is greatly felt not only by his company and me, but particularly by his section, which he commanded so well.

Leslie Hall Douglas is remembered in Jesmond on J1.04 in J1.19 page 18, J1.54 and in Newcastle on NUT063
