On the Azmak Cemetery, Suvla is the Commonwealth War Grave of 2nd Lieutenant Lawrence Armstrong Coats, serving with the 15th Battalion (Service) Northumberland Fusiliers who died 28/10/1915.

Lawrence Armstrong Coats was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the 4th March 1897, the only son of William Coats, of Auldfield, Hawthorn Gardens, Monkseaton, Manager of the North of England Branch of the Sun Life Assurance Society, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and his wife Anne Stobbs, daughter of John Lindsay Armstrong, formerly of North Shields.

Educated at Tynemouth Home School, Tynemouth. Subsequently was employed by Messrs, Harrison and Hoare, Stock Brokers at Newcastle. He also joined the Durham University O.T.C.. in November 1914.

He was gazetted a 2nd Lieutenant on the 6th of June, in the 15th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers.

Lawrence was sent to the Dardanelles attached to the 8th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, on the 20th September. He was killed on the 28th October shot by a sniper.

He was buried in Lone Tree Gully, Suvla Bay.
