“Death of son of late Canon Lister of Newcastle.
The death has taken place of Lieut.Col. G.D. Lister, of the Royal West Kent Regiment, at Netley Hospital. Deceased, who was the youngest son of the late Canon and Mrs. Lister of Newcastle, only returned from India on sick leave on Monday. Col. Lister was about 45 years of age.
He fought in the South African campaign, and his regiment was one of the first regiments to land in France in August, 1914. During the heavy fighting near Mons he was severely wounded, and taken prisoner, and was badly treated by the Germans. He returned to England in 1918.
In February last he went to India with a battalion of his regiment. When in India he had two severe illnesses, his constitution having been weakened by the treatment he received when a prisoner in Germany.”
