On the Helles Memorial is the name of 10864 Lance Corporal Arnold Robson, serving with 6th Battalion (Service) Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regiment) (Green Howards), who died 21/08/1915.

Arnold Robson was the youngest son of William Goodfellow Robson, of Grove Cottage, Craig Walk, Bowness on Windermere, formerly of Newcastle upon Tyne, a retired solicitor, and his wife Mary Young, daughter of the late D. C. B. Adam publisher.

He was born 14th May 1895 in Newcastle and was educated privately. Arnold also attended Dame Allan's School as a pupil. He [also] was a Private secretary to the American novelist, Mr Reginald Wright Kauffham, of Cloughton, Scarborough and Columbia, Pennsylvania USA.

On the outbreak of war he joined the Green Howards, on the 12th August 1914.

He went to Gallipoli on the vessel "Aquitania" on the 3rd of July 1915.

Arnold was killed on the 21st August 1915, near Sandy Hill, near Chocolate Hill, Sulva Bay.

Sergt Hamilton, of the Green Howards wrote:-Your son was a section commander in the attack made by our Corps on [the] 21st August. I saw Arnold shot through the forehead three hundred yards in front of the first line of Turkish trenches. He was killed instantaneously.

Captain Archie T. White, V.C., of the Green Howards wrote:- Arnold was in my company from the beginning or the war. He was one of the best soldiers we had, and had he lived until now would undoubtedly have been an officer. It is too late now to offer my sympathy on your loss, and cheerfully on the day he was killed. I left him half an hour before the attack.

Arnold was an author of several short stories, including "The Squire," which appeared in the "Novel Magazine," September 1916, and "Joy of the Mountains," a story of English Lakeland, which appeared in the "Kendal Times,"and "Mercury."
