On Tyne Cot Memorial is the name of 44116 Private Thomas Michael Brown, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 21/09/1917.

Ron Carson has provided the following:

Thomas was the son of Annie of Whitley Bay and the husband of Louisa (nee England) whom he married on 19 June 1902 at St Dominic’s, Newcastle upon Tyne. (She would later re-marry as Leissens). They lived at 71 St Lawrence Square, Byker along with their six children: Thomas Henry, 3 October 1902; Albert Edgar, 6 March 1906; Robert, 28 May 1908; John 16 March 1911; Maria Louisa, 7 December 1913 and Isabella Martan, 7 January 1916.

Thomas enlisted on 3 December 1914 at Newcastle with ‘D’ Company, 13th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry and was posted to France on April 18th 1917. He was formerly (26/50, Private, 26th Battalion (3rd Tyneside Irish), Northumberland Fusiliers).

Thomas was killed in action on 21 September 1917
