Atkinson, E., Pte., 1916
In the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 26/9 Private Edward Atkinson, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers (Tyneside Irish) who died 01/07/1916.

Ron Carson Has provided the following:

Edward was born on 14 December 1884 at Newcastle upon Tyne, the son of the late Mr & Mrs Amos Atkinson.

He married Mary Ann Cunningham at Newcastle in the second quarter of 1906 and they had five children: Amos, born 18 November 1906; Mary Ann, born 19 April 1909; Fred, born 25 March 1912; Edward and Mary, born 27 August 1914. The family lived at 73 Hawick Crescent, Newcastle, although they moved just before his death, to 178 Walker Road.

Edward served with ‘A’ Company, 26th Battalion (3rd Tyneside Irish), Northumberland Fusiliers and was killed in action on 1 July 1916, aged 33.
