Batey, G.W, L/Sgt., 1918
In Villers-Pol Communal Cemetery Extension is the Commonwealth War Grave of 16183 Lance Serjeant George William Batey, serving with the Coldstream Guards who died 04/11/1918.

He had been a policeman serving in the "C" or Scotswood Road Division. “After being wounded, returned to France on salvage work and was unfortunately killed a few days before the Armistice”. Newcastle Daily Chronicle 01/06/1920.

He is remembered in Newcastle on NUT158 and NUT174, in Byker on B95.07 and in Elswick on E35.03 and E95.09
