Winter, W., A/Smn., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of Tyneside 6/201 Able Seaman William Winter, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 06/05/1915.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

William was born on 27th February 1895 and was working as a blacksmith's striker living with his parents, John and Martha at 31, Hull Street, Newcastle upon Tyne when he enlisted in the RNVR on 9th July 1913. His service number, starting with 6/ reflects his pre-war enlistment.

He joined the Drake Battalion on 22nd August 1914 and was killed in action in Gallipoli on 6th May 1915.

Is he the "William W. Winter" is remembered in Newcastle on NUT011?
