The Evening Chronicle 11/03/1902 carries the following death notice:

YOUNG -- Joseph Wilkinson Young, age 25, son of JosephYoung and the late Hannah Young: grandson of the late William Pallister and Mary Ann Pallister of Usworth Colliery, died of wounds received at Klerksdorp, VonDonop's column, March 5th.

He was in the 14th Company [Northumberland], 5th Imperial Yeomanry, service number 29776, he was seriously wounded on the 25th February 1902 at Yzer Sprint, eventually dying of his wound on the 5th March 1902.

His mother, Hannah, was an older sister of my great grandmother. I know very little about him. His father was Joseph and his son was baptised at Christ Church, Newcastle, on 28th May 1876. He appears in the 1881 and 1891 censuses with his family but by 1901 I guess he had joined up.

He is remembered in Newcastle on NUT017, NUT094 and in NUT195 page 52
