In Bac-du-Sud British Cemetery, Bailleulval is the Commonwealth War Grave of 5885 Private James Dunbar, serving with the 11th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who died 24/03/1918.

James Dunbar was born at 36 George Street, Westgate, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, on the 2nd January 1894. He was the eldest of seven children, to James Dunbar, [born 1865 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne], Cattle Drover, and his wife Isabella, [born 1871 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne]. One of the children died, in 1911 there was James aged 1, an errand boy, Lily born 1897, Hannah E. born May 1900, Catherine born 1905, Isabella born 1908 and Ethel born March 1911.

The family had moved from 36 George Street, Westgate, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, to 19 Back George Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne by 1911. The father had changed profession to a Cattle Drover from a Metal Moulder.

James Dunbar married Maria Lily Campbell in the 3rd Quarter of 1914. They were residing at 77 Blandford Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

He enlisted at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the Tyneside Scottish 20th (1st Tyneside Scottish) Battalion in October 1914. Then was transferred to the 21st (2nd Tyneside Scottish) Battalion. Wounded about 1916 he was transferred into the 11th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers.

He died of his wounds on the 24th March 1918.
