George Herbert Stanton Kent was born on the 29th July 1892 at Rochester, Co Kent. He was the eldest son of Colonel Herbert Vaughan Kent C.B.R.E. of 76 Eaton Terrace, Director Fortifications and Works Office, and his wife Helen, daughter of Lynam Tiffany, of Washington D.C.
Educated at the Wellington College and Durham University where he graduated B.Sc. In August 1914, he enrolled as a Motor Bicyclist Despatch Rider. In France and Flanders from August 1914.
Returned to the UK in January 1915 for training at Chatham and Buxton. He then was gazetted a 2nd Lieutenant to the Royal Engineers on the 17th January 1915, then promoted to Lieutenant in September 1915. Returned to France in August 1915 and was killed in action at Morchain on Sunday 24th March 1918. His unit was the 490th Field Company Royal Engineers.
