Supplementary Notes:
1. Contay lies approx. 16km to the north east of Amiens and a Casualty Clearing Station was established here in August 1916 to serve the wounded involved in the continuing Battle of the Somme.
2. The 47th Field Ambulance was part of the 15th (Scottish) Division which was positioned in the vicinity of Martinpuich at the time of Sgt. Jacob’s death. He was probably mortally wounded here whilst carrying out stretcher-bearing / first aid duties.
