Hollis, B., Lieut., 1917
On Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial is the name of Lieutenant B. Hollis, serving with the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) who died 31/07/1917.

Lieutenant Basil HOLLIS
Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
5th (Angus and Dundee) Battalion (Territorial)

A Steel Agent residing at Newcastle on Tyne. A Lewis, he was Initiated into 1863 Priory Lodge, Grand Hotel, Tynemouth on the 12th January 1911 aged 25; Passed on the 11th May 1911 and Raised on the 14th September 1911. He had progressed through Stewardship to Assistant Secretary and was Junior Deacon of the Lodge. The Lodge Minutes record his death as the 3rd August 1917 but Army Records show him as being killed in action on the 31st July 1917. He is remembered on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium Panel 37.

Basil Hollis is remembered at Gosforth on G9.05 and at North Shields on N34.45
