He was the son of Alfred and Anne Amelia Field. An Explosives Agent, he was Initiated into 541 De Loraine Lodge, Westgate Road, Newcastle on Tyne on the 20th June 1913; Passed 14th November 1913 and Raised on the 12th December 1913. He was the husband of Mary Staniland Field of 22 Lesbury Road, Heaton, Newcastle on Tyne.

He was killed in action on the 11th April 1918 aged 34 and is remembered on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Comines-Warneton, Hainault, Belgium, Panel 2.
