John Marshall of Allfold, Cranleigh, Surrey has submitted the following, and would be glad of any other information:

"The above was my Mother's Uncle
His details are as follows:

He was born 7th October 1882 in Old Street , St Luke, Holborn. His parents were George & Jane ManserHe worked as an Employee of the North Eastern Railway as a Loader at Forth Goods Station Newcastle from 1904

458954 Sapper William Manser, serving with the Royal Engineers 30th Light Railway Operating Company. He died of Wounds on 10th November 1917, after an accident in a collision whilst acting as Guard on Light Railway, aged 35. He was buried in Grave V.1 D.18, Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, Pas de Calais, France. It is thought that he was previously a Private Northumberland Fusiliers."

He is remembered in Newcastle on NUT079
