In Newcastle upon Tyne Jewish Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 557842 Gunner Murray Lukes, serving with the Royal Artillery who died 14/06/1942.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
Jessie,
beloved wife of
John Lukes,
who died Ab 27th 5694 August 8th 1934
in her 52nd year.
May her soul rest in peace.
“She stretched out her hand to the poor, yea,
she put forth her hands to the needy.
She opened her mouth with wisdom and the
law of loving kindness was on her tongue.
She looked well to the ways of her
household and ate not the bread of idleness”.

who died on active service June 10th 1942 Sivan 25th 5702Aged 22 years
Deeply mourned and ever remembered by his sorrowing
father, sisters, aunts, uncles, relatives & friends.
