John William Wheatley was born in Newcastle in 1896. He was the son of William and Isabella Wheatley. In 1901 the family were living at Morrison Street Shieldfield. William was a 29 year old Stableman Groom. By 1911 they were living at 26 Trafalgar Street. John William is the eldest with five younger sisters. Four other children had died.

John William enlisted into the 11th Northumberland Fusiliers and died of wounds in Italy in November 1918.

He is possibly remembered at Newcastle on NUT024
