NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

Bell, R.E., Sgt., 1914-18
The following is given in Northern Cyclist Battalion C Company Memoir

BELL, Sergt. Richard Edwin, 144 Ladykirk Road, Newcastle-on-Tyne. :
Enlisted in 3rd line May 10th, 1915; came to 2/1 in March, 1916. Was Battalion Bombing and Gas Sergeant and Instructor in Bayonet Fighting and Physical Training, and afterwards Company Sergeant Major. Headquarter duties robbed me of many happy times with C Company at Boston. Left the N.C.B. for the 4th Northumberland Fusiliers in September, 1918, and later joined the 8th Northumberland Fusiliers. Corporal (afterwards Sergeant) Patterson was in my Company in the 8th, and a highly valued Orderly Room Clerk.
