James Ekrow Little was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the 3rd August 1897, the eldest son of George Little,[born Roxburgh, Scotland], builders Joiner, of 176 Philip Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, a Joiner, and his wife Margaret, daughter of George Deans. They had 3 children, 1 boy and two girls Marian and Janet.
He was educated at Todd's Nook school in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. James was employed as a Solicitor's clerk.
He enlisted at Newcastle on the 10th September 1915, originally in the Royal Fusiliers, service number 8671, then transferred to the 7th (Service) Battalion, The Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment, where he served in France and Flanders from the 2nd February 1916.
He was killed in action at Ypres on the 24th July 1917.
He was buried 600 yards east of Zillebeke, south-east of Ypres.
An officer wrote:-Your son was always a favourite of mine, as he was always of such a happy disposition, and such a splendid fellow at his work. and a comrade: He was a fine soldier and a brave lad, loved by us all for his cheerfulness and his readiness to help. He was unmarried.
