In Newcastle-upon-Tyne (St.Andrew’s and Jesmond) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 1878788 Sapper John Thomas Winship serving with the 135 Excavating Company Royal Engineers who died 26/07/1940.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
Sapper John Thomas Winship, R.E.
Dearly loved only son of
John and Isabella Winship
Who died of wounds received at Dunkirk
July 26th 1940 aged 27 years.
At rest.
Also Isabella beloved mother of the above
Who died Dec. 3rd 1960 aged 76 years.
