In Newcastle (St. John's Westgate & Elswick) Cemetery is a family headstone, part of which reads:
And of their son Percival Robert Anderson
2nd Lieutenant 13th West Yorks Regiment
killed in action at Suvla Bay October 12th 1915
aged 19 years
Percival Robert Anderson was born on the 9th November 1895, at Cheltenham, Gloucester. He was the 2nd son of the late William Edgar Anderson, and his wife Annie of (57 Sanderson Road, Jesmond, Newcastle-upon-Tyne), youngest daughter of the late Samuel Gaunt of Leeds.
Percival was educated at the Jesmond Council School.
He was employed in the Educational Department at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and had also joined the Durham University Officers Training Corps in February 1915.
He was gazetted a 2nd Lieutenant in the 13th West Yorkshire Regiment on the 1st June. He then was attached to the 9th West Yorkshire Regiment and was sent to Gallipoli on the 23rd September.
Percival Robert Anderson was killed on 'A' beach at Sulva Bay on the 12th October 1915, aged only 19.
