In St Andrews and Jesmond cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of:

5235 Sergeant
John Herbert Pinchin
Wiltshire Regiment
23rd October 1914 age 32

Until the day breaks
and the shadows flee away.

Royal Victoria Infirmary Coroner's Report No. 395 dated 23rd October 1914:

"Herbert Pinchin, 34 years, Srgt, D.Company 1st Wiltshire Regt, High Street, Easterton, near Devizes. Died in Base Department Royal Victoria Infirmary at 2am on 23rd.

After enquiries the Coroner granted a Certificate . No inquest necessary. Died from wounds at seat of War."

Note CWGC records his name as John Herbert Pinchin, and was in 'G' Company. 1st Battalion Wiltshire Regiment.
