Robson, J.A.H., Gnr., 1918
In the Dadizeele New British Cemetery, Belgium, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 169150 Gunner Jabez Arthur Horace Robson, serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery (151st Seige Battery) who died 17/10/1918.

Derek Johnstone has provided the following:

Jabez Arthur Horace Robson was born about 1883 at Pelaw, Gateshead, Durham. His parents were William Robson from Lund, Yorkshire and Lydia Leaman Robson from Swanland in the same county.

In 1891, the Robson family lived at 12, Tyne Terrace, Byker, Newcastle-on-Tyne where his father William was a Station Master.

Records in 1901 show the Robson family at Station House, Byker where his father, still a Station Master, was a widower. At this time Jabez was 17 years old and employed as a station porter. Siblings in the house included William 26, Basil 23, Jessie 24, Edwin 21, Lydia 19, Sidney 15, Charles 13, Annie 12, Norah 10 and Wilfred aged 7.

No record of Jabez could be located in the 1911 Census when he would have been 27 years old. Shipping records in 1917 show on 18th May Jabez on a voyage from Colon, Panama to New York on the vessel Tagus. On 28th May 1917 he was recorded on a voyage from New York to Liverpool and his age was shown as 33. The address on the ship's manifest was Belmont Street, St Anthony’s, Newcastle and his occupation was that of an accountant. Jabez was en-route from Peru.

Military records show that Jabez enlisted at Whitehall, Middlesex, which would have been after 28th May 1917. On his death his effects went to his brothers and sisters indicating he was not married.

Jabez Arthur Horace Robson is possibly remembered in Heaton as one of two "J. Robson" entries on H91.08
