Colin Boyd has provided the following:
John was born on 5th March 1894. He was working as an apprentice engineer living with his parents, Edward Bembridge and Eleanor at 83, North View, Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 16th September 1914.
He joined the 1st Platoon, "A" Company of the Collingwood Battalion on 4th February 1915 and was posted as missing assumed killed in action in Gallipoli on 4th June 1915.
John Joseph Maughan is remembered in Heaton on H91.21 and H91.23
