Campbell, H., Lieut., awarded D.C.M., 1916
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 14/08/1916 reports the presentation of the D.C.M. to Lieut. Hugh Campbell, R.E., in a ceremony in Heaton Baptist Church. He was also given a sword subscribed for by members of the church. The D.C.M. was awarded for Restoring telephonic communication in the trenches under heavy fire and at great personal risk. The D.C.M. was presented by Col. A.H.B. Cavaye and the sword was presented by the Deputy Lord Mayor, Clr. A. Munro Sutherland, J.P.
