In Byker and Heaton Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1381318 Sergeant William Swordy Taylor, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 16/03/1942.

Sgt. Taylor was serving with 57 Sqdn. He was a crew member of Wellington III X3599 DX- which took off on a training exercise and crashed in poor visibility near Newcastle, Count Down.
