The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 18/08/1916 reports:
The late Lieut. R.J. Holloway
Military Funeral at Elswick.
Yesterday the remains of the late Lieut. R.J. Hollloway, of the Northumberland Fusiliers were interred in Elswick Cemetery with full military honour. The deceased was a regular soldier up to a few years ago. On the outbreak of the war he went back to the Colours as lieutenant, and had seen considerable service at the front previous to meeting with an accident which proved fatal. The deceased soldier was well known both in political and social circles. He took a deep interest in musical matters, and was a prominent member of the Glee and Madrigal Society, of which there were many representatives at the funeral. A gun carriage conveyed the coffin, the team being in charge of Corporal Almond; and the firing party, 40 strong, from the N.F., was in command of Company Sergeant Major Topp. All the blinds in the vicinity of 4 Grove Street, where the deceased resided, were drawn, as a mark of respect. There was a large number of people present, both in Grove Street and at the cemetery.
(There follows a list of mourners).
The service was conducted by the Rev. Richard Elliott, of St. Aidan's. The firing party fired three volleys over the grave and the last Post' was sounded by bugle.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. John Nodes, Kensington, London.
Robert James Holloway is remembered at Elswick on E35.03 and E35.09, at Walker on W2.07 in W2 21 and in the Masonic Roll of Honour
