In Newcastle (St. John Westgate & Elswick) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

aged 28 years.

Ron Carson has provided the following:

David was born on 7 May 1919 at Hexham, Northumberland, the son of Maitland and Ursula (nee Carrick) and nephew of Henry Myles Carrick of Monkseaton.

He attested on 13th September 1939 with the Royal Field Artillery, No.7 Reception Unit at Newcastle upon Tyne. David served with 31st Field Regiment and was killed in action in the Western Desert, Egypt.

At the time of his death, David's home address was 68 Percy Park, Tynemouth. He is commemorated on the Army Roll of Honour.
