John Charles was born in the fourth quarter of 1880 at Lanchester, Co. Durham, the son of Jane (nee Davison) and the late John of Cornsay, Co. Durham. He was the husband of Mary Walker Tulip (nee Chambers), whom he married in the second quarter of 1908 at Newcastle upon Tyne and they lived at 55 Sidney Grove, Newcastle.
John served with No.1 Reinforcement Depot, Siege Artillery.
