Northumberland Fusiliers
3rd August 1917, age 50.

Gone but not forgotten.

William Gladstone was born in 1867, the son of the late Thomas and Mary. He was the husband of Mary (nee Duffy) whom he married on 22 June 1901 at St Mary’s, Newcastle upon Tyne and they lived at 17 Suffolk Street, Newcastle.

William formerly served as Private 2432 with the Northumberland Fusiliers, enlisting on 9 April 1889 at Newcastle, aged 20. He saw service in India, Singapore and the South African Campaign before being discharged after completion of his service.

He re-enlisted on 28 June 1915 and was discharged on 29 November 1916 as being ‘no longer fit for service – myalgia’.
