Stephenson, T.D., QRMS., 1916

On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 25/858 Company Quartermaster Serjeant Thomas D. Stephenson serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

In Newcastle (St. John Westgate & Elswick) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Sacred to the memory of
Thomas D. Stephenson
killed in action July 1st 1916,
aged 29 years
also Jane A. dear wife of the above
who died June 3rd 1933
aged 50 years.

Thomas Dormand Stephenson was born in 1887 at Haswell Moor, Durham, the son of Thomas and Jane. He was the husband of Jane Ann (nee Shepherd) whom he married in the second quarter of 1910 at Sunderland. They were living at 46 Pine Street, Newcastle upon Tyne when Thomas enlisted with the 24th Battalion (1st Tyneside Irish).

He was initially reported missing but later reported as killed in action.
