Cuthbert Smith was born at Washington, County Durham in the first quarter of 1895, the son of Charles and Elinor (nee Snowball), of 31 South Benwell Road, Newcastle upon Tyne.
He enlisted at Newcastle with the 22nd Battalion (3rd Tyneside Scottish) before being transferred to the Depot Battalion. He died from ‘Addison’s Disease’.
