Home Guard
20th July 1941.

James Edward was born on 27th September 1904 at Newcastle upon Tyne, the son of William Dent and Frances Mary (nee Armstrong). He was the husband of Elizabeth (nee Purvis) whom he married at Newcastle upon Tyne in the second quarter of 1928. According to the 1939 Register they lived at 73 Railway Street, Newcastle, with their son John Robert.

James volunteered to join the 11th (West Newcastle) Battalion, affiliated to the Northumberland Fusiliers, whose regimental cap badge they wore.
