In Newcastle (St. John Westgate & Elswick) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of CH/2097(S) Private Robert Henry Hatton Russell serving with the Royal Marine Light Infantry, who died 21/08/1918.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory of
Robert Henry Hatton Russell
beloved husband of Mary Jane Russell
who died November 10th 1912,
aged 67 years,
also of Grace Ann Russell
wife of the above
who died July 4th 1889, aged 50 years.
Amelia Russell, his sister
who died May 4th 1909, aged 77 years.
John Straughan Russell, his brother,
who died Feb.2nd 1878, aged 28 years.

only son of the above
accidentally killed, August 21st 1918
whilst on service at Deal,
aged 21 years and 10 months
also of Mary Jane Russell
wife of the above
Robert Henry Hatton Russell
who died Jan.17th 1923, aged 64 years.

Robert was born on 6th October 1896 at Newcastle upon Tyne, the son of Mary Jane (nee Ritchie) and the late Robert H.H. of 74 Wingrove Road, Newcastle.

Robert enlisted on 29th January 1917 with the Royal Marine Light Infantry and served at the R.M. Depot (Deal) where he was accidentally killed.
