R.A. Riccalton
The Rifle Brigade
3rd March 1919, age 51.

Until the day breaks
and the shadows flee away.

Robert Arthur was born in 1867 and was baptised on 16th February 1868 at Newcastle upon Tyne, the son of George and Jane of Newcastle. He was the husband of Mary Henrietta (nee Easter) whom he married at Newcastle in the third quarter of 1898. He was employed by the Co-op at Blandford Street.

Robert originally enlisted on 4th September 1914, serving with 20th Battalion Prince Consort’s Own; Northern Brigade and was formerly (686, Private).

He embarked from Liverpool on 3rd January 1916 for Alexandria, where he served for three years in Egypt.

Robert returned to the U.K. on 31st January 1919. He died at home from the results of influenza and acute pneumonia.
