Harold William was born in Middlesex, the son of William M and Margaret. He was the husband of Caroline Elizabeth, 54 Clun Street, Sheffield (formerly 15 Hull Street, Elswick).
He enlisted on the 8th November 1901 with the 1st Battalion before being transferred to 'B' Company of the 9th Battalion. He was eventually transferred to the Depot Battalion.
Harold was admitted to the 22nd C.C.S. (51st Field Ambulance) on the 4th July 1916 suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm and was discharged on the 4th August 1917.
Harold was awarded the Silver war Badge on 25th September 1917.
