Nesbit, A., A/Smn., 1917
In St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen is the Commonwealth War Grave of Z/3541T Able Seaman Adam Nesbit serving with the Royal Naval Division, who died 20/02/1917.

In Newcastle (St. John Westgate & Elswick) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
our brothers
Leslie Nesbit
died 16th June 1935, aged 19 years
Adam Nesbit R.N.D.
died of wounds, 20th Feb.1917
aged 22 years
John George Nichol Nesbit R.F.A.
killed in action, 23rd April 1917
aged 21 years
Catherine Mary Nesbit
mother of the above
died 9th June 1956, aged 79 years.

Adam was born on 18th August 1894, the son of John and Catherine of 51 Matilda Street, Elswick. Prior to his enlistment he worked as a miner.

He enlisted with Howe Battalion on 20th January 1915. Adam received a gunshot wound to his right thigh on 17th February 1917 which resulted in the leg being amputated at the 10th General Hospital. He failed to recover from his wounds and died a few days later.
