Durham Light Infantry
15th August 1917, age 52.
Henry was born in Carlisle, Cumberland on 14 May 1865. He married Mary Clark at St Stephen’s Church, Newcastle upon Tyne on 28 August 1886.
He was a regular soldier, serving with the Durham Light Infantry, having attested on 1 September 1885 at the Depot, before transfer to 2nd Battalion; serving overseas in India, South Africa and Ireland, during his 21½ years’ service.
His eldest child, a daughter, was born in India and the oldest of his five sons was born in Ireland.
He retired from his army service in December 1905.
He re-enlisted on 9 September 1914 and served until his discharge under Para 392(xvi); Debility on 8 September 1916, while serving with 23rd Battalion. He was awarded the Silver War Badge on 9 November 1916. The cause of death was a malignant disease of the throat.
