William Hancock was born at Newcastle upon Tyne in the third quarter of 1916 to John and Sarah Jane (nee Hancock). He was the husband of Catherine Agnes (nee McNulty), whom he married at Newcastle in the second quarter of 1942 and they lived in Heaton.
William was a schoolmaster with a BSc.(Lond). He died Stafford, Staffordshire.
