Able Seaman R.N. C/J.78618
H.M.S. “Sandhurst”
25th September 1945, age 44.

Dearest remembrance
of our loving son
died after 28 years’ service
in the Royal Navy.

Frederick James was born on 30th October 1900 at Glasgow, the son of William and Helen. He married Lily E. (nee Critchell) at Weymouth, Dorset, in the second quarter of 1930.

His father was a Marine Engineer, originally from Belfast, with the family living at 4 Back Errington Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, according to the 1911 Census.

Frederick joined the Navy on 30th October 1918, initially for 12 years.
