Thomas Burns May was born at Chester le Street, Co. Durham in the first quarter of 1917, the son of Margaret Ellen (nee Burns) of Benwell. Thomas lived in Manchester and served with the 4th Battalion.

He died as the result of an accident, as recorded in the Taunton Courier and Western Advertiser 26/04/1941 and is recorded on the Army Roll of Honour, 1939-1945.
