Mawson, A.J., Lieut., 1918

In Newcastle upon Tyne (St.John's Westgate and Elswick) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Lieutenant Alan John Mawson serving with the 5th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 04/12/1918.

The headstone reads:-

In memoriam
Alan John Mawson
Lieut. Northumberland Fusiliers
Beloved son of
Thomas Oliver and Florence Mawson
Born April 19th 1887
Died at Grantham Dec. 4th 1918.

Also of the above
Thomas Oliver
beloved husband of Florence Mary Mawson
who died October 23rd 1930 aged 74 years.

Alan was the son of Thomas and Florence of 19 East Parade, Newcastle upon Tyne. He served with 5th (Territorial) Battalion and was made Second Lieutenant on 23rd February 1915 (London Gazette).
